The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) chapter, has made a generous donation to the Egyam Childrenโs House of Hope, an orphanage located in the Western Region.
The contribution, valued at approximately GHS 25,000.00, forms part of the associationโs Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and End-of-Year activities.The donation, which took place on Thursday, December 5, 2024, included a variety of essential items such as food, clothing, toiletries, and a cash donation, aimed at supporting the homeโs care for about 80 children.
Presenting the items on behalf of GAUA-UMaT, the President, Mr. Thomas Bright Eshun, stressed that GAUAโs role is not only limited to the public universities but extends to making meaningful contributions to the larger society.
He said that as senior administrators and professionals, members of GAUA are entrusted with the responsibility of advocating for good governance, promoting social equity, and ensuring the welfare of underserved groups.
The associationโs commitment to civic responsibility reflects its belief in the importance of holistic development, which includes not just academic excellence, but also active engagement in humanitarian efforts.
In this regard, the donation to the orphanage aligned with GAUAโs broader goals of enhancing community welfare and promoting social justice.
Rev. Sister Gladys Boakye, who received the donation on behalf of the orphanage, expressed heartfelt gratitude to GAUA-UMaT for their thoughtful and timely gesture, which will go a long way in enhancing the well-being of the children under their care.
She called on individuals and organisations to come to their aid in taking care of the children at the orphanage.
