Tarkwa MUSEC restricts loaded tipper trucks after fatal crash kills four

The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has issued a new directive restricting the movement of loaded tipper trucks within the municipality following a fatal road accident that claimed five lives, including an infant.

According to a statement signed by the Municipal Chief Executive and Chairman of MUSEC, Hon. Ebenezer Cobbinah, the decision was taken after an emergency meeting with the leadership of the Tipper Truck Operators Association.

The council said the directive became necessary after a tipper truck reportedly lost control and crashed into a passenger vehicle in traffic on May 29, resulting in the deaths of three adults and one infant. With immediate effect, no tipper truck carrying quarry materials, stones, sand, or any other load will be allowed to use routes through residential and commercial areas.

Instead, all loaded tipper trucks are required to ply the AngloGold Junction–Quarry Road corridor and use the main Teberebie Junction route.

MUSEC says the measure is aimed at safeguarding lives and property while improving road safety across the municipality.

The council has warned that drivers and operators who fail to comply with the directive will face sanctions.

Enforcement of the new directive will be undertaken by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service in Tarkwa.

The Municipal Security Council is appealing to all tipper truck operators, drivers, and stakeholders to cooperate fully in the implementation of the directive in the interest of public safety.
