NPP directs prospective parliamentary aspirants to cease all campaign activities

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed all prospective parliamentary aspirants, their agents and supporters to immediately stop all forms of campaign activities ahead of the party’s parliamentary processes.

The directive was contained in a statement issued by the NPP headquarters on Sunday, October 11, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong.

The party said it had received several complaints that some members with parliamentary ambitions had already started campaigning in various constituencies.

According to the NPP, such activities violate the party’s regulations and Code of Conduct. It said the conduct could create an uneven playing field and undermine the unity and discipline required for the party’s success.

The party has therefore directed prospective parliamentary aspirants, their agents and supporters to cease campaign activities with immediate effect.

Activities prohibited

The NPP said the directive covers, but is not limited to:

  • Mounting posters, billboards, banners and other branded materials.
  • Organising rallies, polling station executives’ meetings or tours to solicit support.
  • Distributing items or other inducements to delegates and party members.
  • Using paid media and social media advertising to promote a candidature.

The party has also directed officers at the polling station, electoral area, constituency, regional and national levels, including TESCON, not to post or promote any parliamentary aspirant on social media platforms. The directive covers platforms such as Facebook, X and Instagram.

The NPP warned that anyone who fails to comply will face the party’s disciplinary procedures. It added that violations could affect the eligibility of individuals to contest in the party’s parliamentary processes.

The party said it would announce the timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary processes in due course. It has consequently tasked constituency and regional executives with ensuring strict compliance within their respective jurisdictions. The NPP urged all members to cooperate with the directive.
