Free Health Screening at Aklika

April Borns in Takwa and the Diaspora (ABTD) has carried out a health outreach in Aklika, a village in the Nsuaem Municipality.

The April Borns in Takwa and the Diaspora (ABTD) is a group of people born in the month of April who have come together to organize social activities to impact the lives of people in the municipality as part of activities to celebrate their birth month every year.

Started in 2019, the April Borns visited the Tarkwa Prisons and donated provisions to the inmates in 2020.

In 2021, the group visited Kroboase M/A Basic School, a deprived school, and donated computers, books, and other stationeries to the school.

The group also painted all pedestrian crossings in the Tarkwa township in 2022.

This year saw another spectacular event when the group organized a massive health outreach programme for the people of Aklika

Aklika, is a deprived community in the Simpa Boyaaya Electoral Area in the Takwa Nsuaem Municipality.

There is no road that directly leads to the place so people there, who are mainly farmers have to walk for about 10km from Adieyie to the BONSA RIVER, cross the river with a canoe, and continue their journey to their various scattered settlements because there is no bridge on the river.

As the April borns got closer to the river, crossing it in a canoe, ridden by small boys, became a problem as they were afraid because it was the first time some of them were riding in a canoe.

But that notwithstanding, they were able to cross and mobilize all medical supplies to the other side of the river.

Now, it was time to walk to the place.  It took another thirty-five minutes to walk from the riverside to the common grounds where the residents met for the health screening.

Due to the deprived nature of the community, there is no proper healthcare as they cannot boast of even a chips compound. This informed the April Borns decision to visit the community to give access to health care.

In the end, about 500 people were screened for various health conditions and treated. Others who needed immediate medical attention were sent to Tarkwa Municipal Hospital. They were admitted for five days after which they were discharged. Ebenezer Nana Adu Gyan is the organizer of the April Borns in Takwa and the Diaspora.

The people of Aklika who could not hide their joy thanked the ABTD for reaching out to them. A community member, Mrs Mary Baidua mentioned some problems facing the community

Assembly member for the area, Honorable Michael Kwabena Addo expressed his appreciation to the group for the support.

He mentioned roads, bridge, teachers, and healthcare among others as challenges facing the community.

He called on the Tarkwa Nsuaem municipal assembly and the government as a whole to come to their aid.

The Assembly member noted that the MP for Tarkwa Nsuaem sent some people to the community to ascertain the possibility of constructing a bridge in the Bonsa river to ease their burdens.

Hon Michael Addo was hopeful this fact-finding mission will yield a fruitful result to the benefit of the people.
