Gold Fields Ghana Foundation Donates Relief Items to NADMO

The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has donated relief items to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality. This is to support victims affected by recent flooding and strengthen emergency response efforts.

Recent floods affected several communities across Ghana, including parts of Tarkwa Nsuaem. Due to this, NADMO appealed to institutions for support and Gold Fields responded to the call.

Items donated included, packets of roofing sheets, cement, bags of rice, life jackets, wellington boots, among others amounting One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC150,000.00)

Speaking at the presentation, the Executive Secretary of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, Abdel-Razak Yakubu, said the Foundation acted immediately after NADMO requested assistance.

He said helping affected families must come before discussions about the causes of the floods.

“Ghana is experiencing floods in many areas, not only in Accra but also in Tarkwa. NADMO contacted several institutions for support. We are pleased that Gold Fields Tarkwa is among the first companies to respond,” he said.

The Foundation donated bags of rice, cooking oil, cement, roofing sheets, wellington boots and life jackets.

Mr. Yakubu said the food items will support affected families. The cement and roofing sheets will help people repair damaged homes.

He said the Foundation also supplied protective gear for NADMO officers.

“We all saw the video of an emergency responder struggling in floodwaters. We must protect the people who save lives. They must stay safe before they can rescue others,” he said.

Mr. Yakubu said the donation may not solve every challenge. However, it will ease the burden on affected families. He added that the Foundation will continue to invest in projects that improve lives in its host communities.

The Tarkwa Nsuaem Director of NADMO, Joseph Nyarko Cromwell, thanked the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation for the support.

He described the donation as timely and valuable. He said the items will improve relief operations and support flood victims.

Mr. Cromwell urged other companies and organisations to support NADMO. He said partnerships are essential as flooding continues to affect many communities. He also stressed the need to equip emergency responders with the tools they need to work safely.
