Technical Education is no more for second-grade students-W/R Minister

Western regional minister, Dr Okyere Darko Mensah has stated that technical education is the only way to industrialization in the country.


According to him the basics of creating jobs for ourselves starts with vocational and technical education.
Hon Dr Okyere Darko Mensah said this when Kikam Technical Institute launched its 60th anniversary under the theme; 60 years of practical skills training; equipping the youth with skill, a need for socio-economic transformation.


He said technical and vocational education and training is a vital engine to our country’s industrialization agenda and the government is committed to ensuring its citizens have the practical skills necessary for success in life.


He said, gone were those days when people thought that technical education was for second-grade students, but today, it is not like that. He also assured parents that if they want their wards to get jobs after school, they should send them to technical school.

In his speech, the principal of Kikam Technical Institute, Mr Emmanuel Bright Norman explained that technical education is a means of training that helps to equip people to make use of their God-given talents.


He further stated that over the years, the misconception of some Ghanaians towards technical education remained strong, and also thank God in recent times, these misconceptions are gradually becoming a thing of the past.


He said the realization by the government, that technical education remains a key factor in our socio-economic transformation which has led to the establishment of Ghana TVET services has gone a long way to creating awareness for technical education in Ghana in which Kikam Technical Institute has played it role very well

The anniversary will commence on 27th May 2023, with a gospel rock show, and end on 2nd December 2023 with a durbar.
