Health workers and management of the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital were filled with immense joy and gratitude following a generous donation of medical equipment and supplies worth $50,000 from the Motherhood of Africa Foundation in collaboration with Omama Health Ghana.
The items presented included four hospital beds, 45 boxes of flex wipes, hand sanitizers, surgical gowns, disposable surgical cloth, hair caps, and hand gloves, among other essential medical supplies.
The presentation ceremony saw smiles and heartfelt appreciation from hospital staff, who expressed how the donation would significantly enhance their ability to provide quality healthcare to the people of Tarkwa and its environs.
The foundation, in partnership with Omama Health Ghana, has also extended similar support to the Dompim and Simpa communities as well as the Premier Hospital in Tarkwa.

The founder of the Motherhood of Africa Foundation, Nana Esi Antwi Boasiako made the presentation and emphasized that the gesture was in fulfillment of a promise she made during the launch of the foundation last year. re
“After launching the foundation in March last year, I toured the facility and realized the type of bed people were lying on and the short of supplies in the hospital. So I promised that I was going to bring them some beds and medical supplies and that is what I did today”, she said.
Nana Esi Antwi Boasiako noted that she has taken delivery of some equipment for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the hospital she would be donating by the end of this year.
“I have realized there is a NICU project ongoing which I didn’t know and I have already lobbied for NICU equipment which are ready to be donated before the end of this year to support the unit”, she stated.
According to her, there are lots of items she would wish to ship from the U.S to support healthcare in Tarkwa and Ghana at large, however, the port duties on the items are huge for her to bear, and therefore called on the government to lessen the duties on shipped healthcare items in order to make healthcare better.
The Medical Superintendent of the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital, Dr. Fredrick Yaw Sarpong, expressed deep gratitude, stating that the donation came as a timely intervention to address some of the hospital’s pressing needs.
He added that the equipment and supplies would help boost the morale of health workers and improve healthcare delivery in the municipality.
Dr Sarpong assured Nana Esi that anytime she is ready to ship items to Ghana, she should inform health authorities in order to seek for a waiver from the ports in order to clear it at a minimal cost.
The Country Director of Motherhood of Africa and Omama Health Ghana, Kingsley Edmund Baidoo noted that the numerous donations of Nana Esi Antwi Boasiako is pure philanthropic work and not politically motivated.
He said Motherhood of Africa is an offspring of Omama Health Ghana to take care of maternal issues.
He noted that “there are some women who are detained at the hospitals after delivery because they are unable to pay their bills. When we see that, we settle your bills for you then you can be free to go home to take care of your baby”
Mr Baidoo said “very soon Omama Health Ghana will be operational to take care of adults in Ghana. We want to bring the adult care system abroad to Ghana where we can take care of old people who have no one to take care of them”.
