Landslide blocks Akoon–Bogoso Junction Road in Tarkwa after heavy rainfall

A major landslide triggered by heavy rainfall has blocked the busy Akoon–Bogoso Junction road in Tarkwa.

This has caused a significant traffic disruption, raising safety concerns for motorists and residents in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality.

The incident occurred on Sunday June 14, 2026 near Redeemer Hospital, opposite the Gold Fields Junction, following hours of intense rainfall.Large volumes of mud, rocks, and debris slid from a nearby hillside onto the road, completely obstructing vehicular movement along the stretch.

The blockage left motorists stranded and forced many commuters to turn back or use alternative routes.

The affected road serves as an important link for residents, workers, and commercial transport operators travelling within Tarkwa and surrounding communities.

This is making the disruption a major inconvenience for commuters.

Road users have been advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes until the debris is cleared and the road is deemed safe for travel.

NADMO officials are expected to assess the extent of the damage and implement measures to restore access as quickly as possible.

This is not the first time the location has experienced such an incident.

A minor landslide was recorded at the same spot recently. This is raising concerns about the stability of the hillside and the need for long-term preventive measures.

The latest landslide highlights the growing risks associated with heavy rains in Tarkwa, including flooding, erosion, and slope failures, particularly in communities located near steep embankments and landscapes.

As of the time of filing this report, no injuries or fatalities had been reported.
