The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has constructed two mechanised boreholes and a 40,000-litre water storage facility for residents of Brahabebome in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region.
The project, valued at GH¢616,858.39, is expected to significantly improve access to clean and safe drinking water in the community, where residents have for years faced challenges securing a reliable water supply.
Women and children in particular have had to walk long distances in search of water, placing an additional burden on households.
The newly constructed facility comprises two mechanised boreholes, a 40,000-litre water storage system and four standpipes, which will serve households and other members of the community.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Project Manager of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, Madam Sandra Deladem Woanyah, said the intervention forms part of the Foundation’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of people in its host communities.
She said access to clean water was essential to promoting good health and improving the general wellbeing of residents.
Madam Woanyah said the Foundation would continue to support projects that respond to the development needs of its host communities.
The Chief of Brahabebome, Nana Ansah, expressed gratitude to the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation for the intervention.
He described the water project as a significant and life-saving development that would help address one of the community’s longstanding challenges.
The Assembly Member for the Brahabebome Electoral Area, Hon. Muntari Mohammed, also commended the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation for the project and its continued support for the community.
The commissioning of the facility marks another intervention aimed at improving access to basic social amenities and enhancing the quality of life of residents in the Foundation’s host communities.
