Workers of Engineers and Planners at the Gold Fields mine in Tarkwa have withdrawn their services.
This is due to the delays in the payment of their provident fund contributions, end-of-contract benefits, and Tier Two pension contributions.
The aggrieved workers say management has failed to pay the outstanding benefits despite several appeals and concerns raised over the matter.
According to the workers, their provident fund and tie two are deducted frim their salaries every month, “but we are not aware of the fund managing firms that are managing these funds for us”.
They say the situation has become unbearable, forcing them to halt work until management settles all outstanding payments of end of contract benefits and inow the companies managing their funds as well
Some workers who spoke to the myinfotoday.com anonymously expressed disappointment in management’s handling of the issue, accusing the company of poor communication and a lack of urgency in addressing their concerns.
The strike action is going to affect the operations of the mine, since Engineers and Planners provides critical mining and operational support services to Gold Fields, Tarkwa mine.
As of the time of filing this report, management of Engineers and Planners and Gold Fields has not issued any official statement on the matter or outlined steps to resolve the impasse.
The workers insist they will not return to work until management takes immediate action to pay all outstanding entitlements.
The development has raised concerns about labour relations in the mining sector, as delays in benefits and pension contributions continue to trigger unrest among workers.
