In a devastating turn of events, the Assembly Member for Tebrebie Electoral Area in Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, Hon Manasseh Addison Sackey, widely known as Teacher Obuor, lost his life in a drowning accident in the Bonsa River on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred at Mile Ten and Half in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality while the assembly member, seeking re-election, and four others were crossing the river to canvass for votes in the upcoming District Assembly elections. Unfortunately, their canoe capsized, resulting in the tragic drowning of Teacher Obuor and another individual identified as Abeka, while three others managed to escape.
NADMO Director in Tarkwa Nsuaem, Francis Amoah, reported that the accident took place around 1 pm. The lifeless body of Teacher Obuor was retrieved from the river at approximately 3 pm on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, and subsequently deposited at the morgue in Tarkwa. The recovery of Abeka’s body is pending, awaiting the completion of traditional rites to facilitate retrieval.
Teacher Obuor, who also served as a teacher at Tebrebie MA Basic School, held the position of Deputy Constituency secretary of the NDC in Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency. In light of this tragic loss, the political party has decided to suspend all campaign activities in the constituency as a mark of respect and to mourn the passing of their esteemed party executive.
