Ghana Police Arrest Three Suspects for Weapon Smuggling in Savelugu

The Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals in connection with an alleged weapon smuggling operation in Savelugu, a town in the Northern Region of Ghana.

The Northern Regional Police Command, acting on intelligence, carried out a targeted operation on May 1, 2025, leading to the arrest of the suspects from their hideouts.

The three men have been identified as Gaba Abdallah Alhassan, Alhassan Abdallah, and Alhassan Abdul Kudus.

Police retrieved a cache of illegal weapons during the operation, including one (1) AK-47 rifle, one (1) submachine gun (SMG), one (1) Smith & Wesson SD40 VE pistol, and one (1) single-barrel gun.

Additionally, officers found two (2) magazines, fifteen (15) rounds of AK-47 ammunition, thirteen (13) rounds of pistol ammunition, twenty-seven (27) other rounds of ammunition, and five (5) rounds of BB cartridges.

The suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with investigations. Authorities have confirmed that they will be processed according to the law and face prosecution in due course.

This operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to clamp down on illegal firearms and improve public safety across the country, particularly in the Northern Region.
