The 1986 Year Group of Tarkwa Senior High School (TARSCO) has officially launched its 40th anniversary celebration and unveiled a week-long programme of activities to commemorate four decades since leaving the school.
The launch brought together members of the year group, school authorities and other stakeholders as the old students outlined activities designed to celebrate their journey while giving back to their alma mater.
The anniversary programme includes health screening, health talks, aerobics, campus tours, a float, career guidance, social activities and a thanksgiving service.
A major highlight of the celebration will be the dedication of a modernized school infirmary and nurses’ quarters constructed and furnished by the year group.
1986 Year Group unveils anniversary programme
Chairman of the Tarsco 1986 Year Group, Dr. Festus Awuah, said the anniversary provides an opportunity for members to reflect on their journey and contribute meaningfully to the development of their former school.
The year group initially planned to construct a standalone clinic for the school and surrounding communities.
However, land acquisition challenges forced the members to revise the plan. They subsequently decided to renovate and expand the existing school infirmary.
Dr. Awuah said the group has extensively renovated the existing facility and constructed an additional infirmary and nurses’ quarters.
“We have actually done a massive renovation of that existing infirmary, and we also constructed the upper one, also an infirmary and a nurse’s quarters as well, so that the nurses can also have a place to rest while on duty”, he said.
He said the facilities have also been furnished and equipped with the items needed to support healthcare delivery at the school.
According to him, the group designed the project to serve students and medical staff for many years.
Week-long activities unveiled
The anniversary programme will run for a week, with activities scheduled to engage members, students, school authorities and the wider Tarsco community.
There was an official launching, health screening, health talks and engagements with school management on Monday. Tuesday will be dedicated to aerobics and a tour of the school campus.
Wednesday will be the major project day, with the dedication of the renovated and expanded infirmary and nurses’ quarters. The year group will also visit the dormitories and hold career motivational sessions for students.
The group will have an excursion outside Tarkwa on Thursday, to be followed by further activities and a float on Friday. Saturday will focus on social activities and relaxation, while the celebration ends on Sunday with a thanksgiving service.
