The Motherhood of Africa Foundation, a non-profit organization has stepped in to support the ongoing renovation of the Wassa Simpa Health Centre in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality,
This is to address critical health challenges affecting healthcare delivery in the Simpa community.
Through a series of targeted interventions, the Motherhood of Africa foundation is ensuring that the facility is restored and expanded to provide improved healthcare services.
Addressing Urgent Healthcare Challenges
The Simpa Health Centre, one of the oldest health facilities in the area, had deteriorated over time, suffering from structural defects such as roof leakages and inadequate space for patient care. Recognizing the need for urgent intervention, the community, in collaboration with the Municipal Health Directorate, initiated a fundraising campaign to support the renovation. Despite initial efforts, the project stalled due to a lack of funds.

Motherhood of Africa Foundation, led by its founder, Nana Esi Antwi Boasiako, has since taken significant steps to revive the project. Aside from securing support from partners like Kaakyire Agrochemicals in Kumasi, the foundation has contributed essential building materials and is overseeing key phases of the construction process.
Understanding the broader needs of the health centre, the foundation has not only provided 50 bags of cement to aid in construction but has also arranged for two trips of sand to facilitate plastering. In addition, electrical materials have been procured and are set to be delivered soon to commence electrical installations.
Making a presentation of Five Thousand Ghana Cedis cash equivalent to 50 bags of cement, the Founder of Motherhood of Africa Foundation, Nana Esi Antwi Boasiako said this donation “was made possible with the help of Kaakyire Agrochemicals in Kumasi, who bought into my idea of supporting my community to complete the Simpa Health Centre”.
She added that “Aside this, I have ordered for two trips of sand to help start plastering the project. I have also ordered for electrical materials which would be delivered very soon so that the electrical works can start”.
Nana Esi Antwi Boasiako assured them that, she would do everything possible to ensure the quick completion of the project.
“This is not just about donating materials; it’s about making sure the Simpa Health Centre becomes a fully functional healthcare facility capable of serving the people of this community effectively. We are working tirelessly to bring this project to completion.”
Challenges in Healthcare Delivery
Due to the ongoing renovations, healthcare workers have been forced to operate in a temporary structure, creating significant challenges for both staff and patients. According to Madam Mary Ponful, the Physician Assistant in charge of the facility, the most pressing issue is the severe lack of space.
“Right now, we are using just four rooms for all our services. Two rooms are for general OPD, and two are for maternity services. There is no privacy for our clients. While attending to someone in the consulting room, another patient is lying on the same bed, and another is having their vitals checked in the same space. There is no privacy at all.”
Additionally, the absence of washrooms has made conditions even more difficult for both patients and healthcare workers.
“The situation has significantly reduced our number of patients. Many people no longer want to come here for deliveries because of the poor conditions. The family planning unit is also affected—it’s an open space with no privacy, which discourages people from coming. Privacy is our biggest challenge.”
Community Appreciation and the Road Ahead
The intervention by Motherhood of Africa Foundation has been met with immense gratitude from the Simpa community. Hon. Emmanuel Gyima, Assembly Member for the Simpa Electoral Area, acknowledged the foundation’s ongoing support as a game-changer in the health centre’s transformation.
“The work that Motherhood of Africa Foundation is doing is commendable. This is not just about donations—it is about a commitment to seeing this project through. This will go a long way to improve healthcare delivery in our community.”
