Killers of Ahmed  Suale will be brought to book-Prez of Ghana

President of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo has given the assurance that killers of Ghanaian investigative journalist, Ahmed Husein Suale would be brought to book, no matter how long it takes.

Ahmed Husein Suale, an investigative journalist from Ghana, was murdered on January 16, 2019, when he was driving in Madina, a suburb of Accra, when two unidentified men shot him three times—twice in the chest and once in the neck, leading to his immediate death.

The murder occurred shortly after his involvement in the investigative documentary “Number 12,” which revealed widespread corruption in the Ghana Football Association and led to the resignation of its president, Kwesi Nyantakyi.

Suale’s assassination shocked the nation and drew international condemnation, with calls for a thorough investigation and justice for his death. Before his murder, Suale had received threats, and his photograph had been publicly displayed by a Ghanaian politician, Kennedy Agyapong, who urged the public to attack him if they encountered him.

Despite widespread outcry and demands for accountability, the case remains unresolved, and no one has been convicted for his murder.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 3rd African Media Convention in Accra, President Akuffo Addo said, “I assure you that Ghana’s image as a beacon of democracy on the African continent will not be diminished in this election year. It will be fully safeguarded as will the efforts of the law enforcement agencies to bring the killers of Ahmed Suale to book continue no matter how long it takes.”

The President’s assurance was well received by participants of African Media Convention as they expressed their happiness about the president’s commitment to finding the killers of the undercover Investigative Journalist, Ahmed Husein Suale.

Speaking to the Head of the African Program for the Committee to Protect Journalists, Angela Quintal, she noted that “the president’s statement on Ahmed Suale is a good one for me, and it behooves on you as journalists to hold the president accountable for his statement”
