Golden Star Wassa Women’s Summit promotes inclusion and professional growth

The Women’s Committee of the Ghana Mine Workers’ Union branch at Golden Star Wassa has organised an Empowered Miners Summit aimed at promoting inclusion, professional growth, and stronger participation of women in the mining industry.

Held under the theme, “Driving Productivity Through Inclusion and Bold Advocacy,” the summit brought together women from various departments of the company and its contractor firms to discuss workplace inclusion, career development, leadership, and personal growth.

The event created a platform for participants from different professional backgrounds and experience levels to openly engage on challenges facing women in mining and explore practical solutions to improve their impact within the industry.

A major highlight of the summit was a panel discussion session where experienced professionals shared personal stories, career experiences, and guidance on navigating opportunities in the mining sector.

The discussions also focused on building confidence, encouraging mentorship, and strengthening women’s participation in leadership roles.

Speaking at the event, Vida Brewu from the Ghana Mine Workers’ Union educated participants on workplace policies, legal protections, and advocacy tools available to support women in the sector. Rebecca Appiah of the Community Department stressed the importance of empowering women, noting that stronger support systems for women contribute directly to productivity and improved workplace environments.

“When women are supported to grow and lead, productivity improves and workplaces become stronger,” she said.

Representing management, Boatemaa Hammond from the Corporate Affairs Department encouraged participants to continue supporting one another, building self-confidence, and taking advantage of opportunities for advancement.

“It is always encouraging to see women come together to share, learn, and support each other. Conversations like these are important for personal growth, stronger teams, and a more inclusive workplace,” she stated.

The summit ended with participants agreeing on resolutions aimed at promoting continuous learning, greater inclusion, and increased participation of women across all levels of the company.
