The Western Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for allegedly posing as members of the Ghana Gold Board Taskforce in a scheme to extort money from gold dealers in the region.
The suspects, identified as 40-year-old Foster Delord and 38-year-old Prince Worvi, both of whom claim to be former military officers, were apprehended after a complaint was lodged with the police. According to the report, the duo had been visiting multiple gold-buying businesses under the guise of being Gold Board Taskforce officials.
Upon their arrest, law enforcement officers retrieved a number of items suspected to be used in the operation, including one handcuff, a canister of pepper spray, an electric shocker, a set of uniform, and a sum of GH₵500 in cash.
The suspects have since been arraigned before the Tarkwa Circuit Court and remanded into police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
In a statement, the Western Regional Police Command urged the public, particularly those in the mining and gold trading sectors, to remain vigilant and report suspicious individuals claiming to be from government agencies. Authorities emphasized the importance of verifying official identification before engaging with such persons.
