The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, has been plunged into mourning following the unexpected death of one of its students, Mr. Davis Frimpong-Manso, a third-year Logistics and Transport Management student.
In an official release from the University Relations Office dated April 11, 2025, UMaT announced with deep regret the unfortunate incident which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, April 9, 2025
According to the statement, Mr. Frimpong-Manso collapsed on the premises of his hostel and was immediately rushed to the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The University has since notified the bereaved family, and the body has been released by the hospital to the family to begin preparations for burial.
UMaT, while expressing its heartfelt condolences, also used the opportunity to caution the public against spreading unverified information regarding the cause of death.
“The University urges the public to refrain from peddling unsubstantiated claims about the cause of death and respect the privacy of the bereaved family,” the statement read.

The entire UMaT community is devastated by the loss and extends its deepest sympathies to Mr. Frimpong-Manso’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult period.
