A Constituency Executive member of the NDC in Tarkwa Nsuaem, Francis Benevolent Abban, has filed a petition with the Western Regional Executives, challenging his recent suspension from the partyโs leadership in the constituency.
He believes his removal is based on false allegations and personal vendettas within the constituency leadership, and he is seeking intervention to restore fairness.
Background
The petition, sighted by myinfotoday.com and written with legal terminologies stated that Francis Abban has been an active member of the NDC, working closely with the 2020 Parliamentary Candidate for Tarkwa Nsuaem, Hon. John Justice Abban, and contributing to the party’s operations at various levels.
In recognition of his efforts, he was co-opted as a member of the Constituency Executive Committee after the Constituency elections , a position approved in consultation with the Regional Executive Committee.
However, tensions began to rise between Francis and the Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency Chairman, Danladi Salifu, as well as the Constituency Secretary, Stephen Ayombisa.
Despite their past collaboration, Francis now finds himself at odds with the local party leadership, who have accused him of misconduct and taken steps to remove him from his role.
The Allegations
The key incident leading to Francisโ suspension revolves around a video in which he was seen delivering a speech at a funeral.
The Constituency Chairman and Secretary claim that this video shows Francis aligning himself with a rival faction known as the “Green Team,” which they argue is grounds for his removal.
Additionally, they accused Francis of selling party information for personal gain, alleging he traded the Parliamentary Candidateโs manifesto for moneyโa charge Francis vehemently denies as baseless.
Francisโ Response
Francis insists that the accusations against him are unfounded and driven by internal politics rather than any genuine misconduct. He points out that the Tarkwa Nsuaem NDC leadership never followed the proper procedures outlined in the party’s constitution for handling such disputes.
No formal charges were brought against him, and he was not given an opportunity to defend himself before being suspended from party activities and removed from official communication platforms. He also criticizes the actions of the Constituency Chairman, accusing him of using his position to promote personal agendas and divide the party.
Francis highlights how the Chairman has created a faction known as the “Trusted Team,” which he uses to control local party politics and push out those who donโt align with his views.
What Francis Wants
In his petition, Francis is asking the Western Regional Executives to step in and provide clarity on the rights and privileges of co-opted members like himself. He questions whether a majority of the local executive committee can use their power to remove a co-opted member simply because he refuses to follow their “unconstitutional whims and caprices.”
Francis also seeks a resolution that will restore peace and fairness to the Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency.
He is calling for a review of the circumstances surrounding his suspension and for the Regional Executives to take action against what he sees as politically motivated attempts to undermine his role in the party.
The Bigger Picture
Beyond his personal case, Francis believes this situation speaks to broader issues within the Tarkwa Nsuaem NDC. He warns that the current leadership is fostering division and mistrust within the party, which could hurt their chances in future elections if left unaddressed. He hopes that by bringing this issue to the attention of the Regional Executives, they will not only address his suspension but also take steps to bring unity and focus back to the partyโs activities in Tarkwa.
