A new chapter has begun in the history of the Lower Town Axim and Nsein Traditional Area as Nana Akaakye II was formally outdored as the Adehyehemaa (Royal Queen Mother) in a grand traditional ceremony marked by cultural display, community pride, and a vision of transformation.
The colourful event took place at Nsein in Western Region of Ghana, drawing traditional leaders, government officials, religious bodies, and hundreds of residents from across the Nzema East Municipality and beyond.
The ceremony was presided over by the Paramount Chief, Awulae Agyefi Kwame II, with dignitaries such as Hon. Herbert Kuah Dickson, Municipal Chief Executive for Nzema East, and Hon. Kofi Arko Nokoe, Member of Parliament, the clergy, security officers among others were in attendance.
In her maiden speech as the Royal Queen Mother, Nana Akaakye II said “I stand before you with a heart full of gratitude and a spirit of humility,” she said. “My reign, by God’s grace, shall be one of service, inclusion, empowerment, and transformation.”
Championing Education, Health, and Economic Empowerment
Nana Akaakye II outlined a clear development agenda focused on four main pillars education, health, economic empowerment, and community development.

On education, she promised to be a strong advocate for girl-child education, support for needy but brilliant students, and improved access to quality teaching and learning facilities. “Our children deserve the opportunity to dream beyond their current circumstances,” she said, pledging that no child; especially girls would be left behind.
Turning to health, the Adehyehemaa emphasized the importance of preventive care and maternal health. She announced plans to support health screening exercises, promote sanitation awareness, and establish a mobile outreach program to deliver healthcare to remote communities, particularly the elderly and vulnerable.
On economic empowerment, Nana Akaakye II acknowledged the struggles of women and youth in the traditional area. She committed to spearheading training in vocational and entrepreneurial skills, supporting small businesses through micro-credit initiatives, and creating opportunities for mentorship and youth development. “Economic dignity is the foundation for peace and stability,” she noted.
In the area of community development, the queen mother assured the people of her intention to be a vocal advocate for improved infrastructure, including roads, water systems, schools, and markets. She promised to collaborate with both government and private institutions to bring meaningful development to the area.
A Reign of Service and Unity
Nana Akaakye II called on all citizens; both residents and those in the diaspora to support her efforts to drive inclusive growth and cultural preservation. She underscored the need for unity, mutual respect, and active participation in building a better future.
“This stool is not for personal glory. I have not come to be served, but to serve,” she declared.
A proud daughter of Dompim and Simpa and a devout member of the Church of Pentecost, Nana Akaakye II expressed profound appreciation to her spiritual leaders, family, and the people of Nsein for their belief in her.
In his remarks, Awulae Agyefi Kwame II praised Nana Akaakye II for her humility, dedication to the community, and readiness to serve. He noted that her selection followed careful consultation and reflected the collective confidence of the traditional council.
“This is a sacred duty, and I believe Nana Akaakye II possesses the strength, wisdom, and moral courage to uplift our people, especially the women and youth,” he said. “Let us support her wholeheartedly as she works with us to preserve our culture and drive development across the Axim and Nsein Traditional Area.”
