Man, 42, Burns Himself to Death in Aboso Fire Tragedy

A 42-year-old man, identified as Daniel Oboh, has reportedly set himself ablaze, resulting in his death at Aboso in the Prestea Huni Valley Municipality of Ghana’s Western Region.

The tragic Aboso fire incident, which occurred around 1:15 a.m., completely destroyed Mr. Oboh’s five-bedroom house and its contents. All tenants in the building also lost their belongings as the flames spread quickly through the structure.

Confirming the incident in an interview with Peace News, the Municipal Fire Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Divisional Officer Grade Two (DO II) Alex Assiem, said his team received a distress call at about 1:15 a.m. and responded immediately.

“We arrived at the scene within seven minutes and did our best to put the fire off, but unfortunately, the man had already set himself on fire before our arrival,” Mr. Assiem explained.

He added that the Ghana National Fire Service is currently investigating the cause of the fire and the circumstances that led to the man’s decision to take his own life.

Residents of Aboso have expressed shock and sorrow over the incident, describing it as one of the most tragic events to occur in the Prestea Huni Valley Municipality in recent times.
