Krobo Groups Demand Apology from MP Over ‘Shameful’ Comments on Somanya–Kpong Road Protest

The Coalition of Krobo Groups has called on the Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo and Deputy Minister for Interior, Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, to issue a public and unqualified apology for comments they describe as “offensive, reckless, and unbecoming of a public officer.”

In a strongly worded statement dated October 22, 2025, the Coalition; made up of Kloma Hengme, Adolf Nomo and Dangme Youth for Development expressed outrage over remarks allegedly made by the MP during a live radio interview following the Somanya–Kpong Road demonstration on October 14, 2025.

According to the group, Hon. Terlabi “attacked the organisers,” describing them as people who “have no shame,” and further alleged that the demonstrators were members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“It is regrettable that rather than empathising with the suffering of his constituents, the Honourable Member of Parliament chose to attack the organisers… Such conduct undermines the dignity of Parliament and the principles of public service,” the statement read

The Coalition explained that the peaceful demonstration was a result of months of frustration after the contractor working on the Somanya–Kpong Road abandoned the project due to non-payment. Despite repeated appeals to government, they said no progress had been made, prompting residents, traders, and motorists to protest the worsening conditions.

In their petition to the President during the protest, the group outlined the health, economic, and safety risks posed by the abandoned road and called for urgent government intervention.

While the Coalition said it had chosen to ignore insults and false accusations from some National Democratic Congress (NDC) communicators in both Lower Manya and Yilo Krobo constituencies, it stated that Hon. Terlabi’s comments could not go unchallenged.

“To insult citizens for peacefully demanding a motorable road is not only undemocratic but also morally indefensible,” the Coalition emphasized.
“Hon. Terlabi’s statements betray the trust of the very people he was elected to serve and contradict the responsibilities of his high office.

Demands by the Coalition

The Coalition outlined two key demands:

A public and unqualified apology from Hon. Terlabi to the chiefs and people of Krobo for his “insulting and inflammatory” comments.

  1. A renewed commitment from the MP to conduct himself with humility, decorum, and dignity, while representing his constituents fairly, regardless of their political affiliations.

The Coalition further reminded all public officials that peaceful protest and civic advocacy are constitutional rights, stressing that their demand for a safe and motorable road “is not political but a call for fairness, justice, and human dignity.”

They reaffirmed their commitment to promoting development across the Krobo area and called on the government to prioritize the completion of the Somanya–Kpong Road project.
