Heath Goldfields Limited (HGL), operators of the Bogoso-Prestea Mine, has received commendation from the Local Companies in Mining Services (LOCOMS) for making part payment of a long-standing legacy debt owed to local contractors in the mining sector.
The development is seen as a major relief for contractors and service providers within Tarkwa and Prestea-Bogoso, a mining hub that contributes significantly to Ghana’s gold production and local economic growth.
In a statement signed by LOCOMS Secretary, Mr. Imurana Salifu, the group lauded the company’s Managing Director, Mr. Patrick Appiah Mensah, for demonstrating leadership by addressing a matter that has been a pressing concern for businesses in the mining catchment area.
LOCOMS emphasized that while the part payment is a welcome step, they are hopeful of a complete settlement of all outstanding arrears to contractors. The group further called on Heath Goldfields to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the Bogoso-Prestea Mine to sustain jobs, community development, and business confidence in Tarkwa and its surrounding mining communities.
Industry watchers say the move by Heath Goldfields could mark a positive turning point in the relationship between the company and its stakeholders, particularly at a time when trust and transparency are critical to the sustainability of Ghana’s mining sector.
LOCOMS concluded by congratulating the management of HGL for adopting a people-centred and proactive approach in resolving challenges facing contractors and pledged their readiness to work in partnership to promote shared prosperity in the local mining economy.
