Govt to Construct 10.27km Tarkwa town roads as part of Big Push agenda

The government is set to construct a 10.27-kilometre road network within the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality in the Western Region as part of its Big Push infrastructure agenda aimed at improving urban road conditions and easing traffic congestion in the mining town.

Currently, vehicular traffic in Tarkwa has become a major concern, as huge congestion builds up daily on the few motorable town roads.

The situation has been worsened by the poor state of inner link roads, which are largely unmotorable and force all vehicles to use the same limited routes through the central business area.

The upcoming road construction project is expected to decongest traffic, improve connectivity between communities, and enhance the flow of goods and services within the municipality.

Some of the key inner roads to benefit from the initiative include the Alimens–Cyanide stretch, Akyempim–Hill Top Junction, and Brenuakyim–Kaskana roads, among others.

This came to light at the Maiden Media Engagement of the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem, Hon Salifu Issah Taylor at Longji Hotel, Tarkwa.

Engineers from the Ministry of Roads and Highways have already inspected the project sites and confirmed plans to begin construction on the 10.27km stretch in the coming months.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem has revealed that engagements are underway with development partners to rehabilitate other feeder and community roads not captured under the current phase.

The goal, he said, is to ensure that all roads in Tarkwa become motorable and accessible, supporting both local and industrial growth.
