President John Dramani Mahama has ordered for an urgent investigation into allegations of suspicious flights arriving at Kotoka International Airport (KIA), suspected to be linked to drug trafficking and money laundering.
This follows a press conference by Member of Parliament Hon Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, who raised concerns about two flights that reportedly exhibited suspicious activities.
In response, President Mahama, in a statement on his official Facebook page, directed all relevant investigative agencies—including the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), and the National Security Coordinator—to collaborate with the honourable member of parliament to verify and investigate the claims.
“The government takes all allegations seriously, and to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation, I have directed all relevant investigative agencies to immediately and fully collaborate with the Honourable Member of Parliament so he provides all necessary information,” the President stated. “
The directive comes on the heels of a recent high-profile drug bust by the NIB, where authorities intercepted illicit drugs with an estimated street value of $350 million.
This latest case highlights the ongoing battle against drug smuggling and money laundering in Ghana, with the government reaffirming its commitment to cracking down on transnational criminal activities.
Security and law enforcement agencies are expected to conduct thorough investigations and take all necessary actions to expose and prosecute any individuals or entities involved in drug-related crimes at KIA or any other point of entry.
The outcome of this investigation is highly anticipated as the government seeks to uphold its zero-tolerance policy against drug smuggling and organized crime.
“We will maintain zero tolerance for using Ghana as a transit or final destination for drugs or drug trafficking,” the President stressed
