Flood hits Esuoso, Bonsawire, and adjourning communities in Tarkwa Nsuaem

Houses in the Esuoso and Bonsawire communities of the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality have been submerged by flood leaving community folks homeless.

Apart from that the main road linking Tarkwa and these communities has been blocked by the flood preventing community folks from travelling to Tarkwa and vice versa.

Canoe operators have begun cashing in at Bonsawire by providing a means to move commuters to move to wherever they want to go.

People moving from Tarkwa to Bonsawire or Esuoso will have to get down on the road, take a canoe and move to the other side of the road, pick “okada” (motorbike) to their destination.

One of the canoe operators said “We charge ten Ghana cedis to transport the people from one side of the flood to the other. For those who cannot afford it, we charge them ten cedis. And this is our contribution to help the people in this hard time”.

Community folks have attributed the roadblock to the small nature of the bridges on the road.

We need the help of the government to deal with this perineal flooding of the road and our communities every year. As we speak, no car is going and coming, how can we feed our families? In fact, if they don’t do anything about this situation, we will not vote in 2024.

In the Esuoso communities, a number of houses have been submerged while others have begun to collapse.

Speaking to the Assembly Member for Esuoso Bonsawire Electoral Area James Kojo Yeboah, he noted that, “the community began experiencing the flood from Friday, but it was not all that serious, we woke Sunday, June 25, 2023, to see that the water levels have begun going up”.

“When some of the people realized their houses were being flooded, they began moving to higher grounds, but as of today, everybody has moved from the place to perch with family and friends”, he added.

Currently, the flooded area has been disconnected from electricity to prevent any electrocution.
