A wave of backlash has erupted online as Dangme TikTokers, influencers, and music lovers accuse organisers of the Ngmayem Festival 2025 of sidelining local artistes in favour of mainstream performers.
The criticism comes ahead of the much-anticipated Kloyom Artistes’ Night, powered by Rite FM, which lists popular Ghanaian duo Dope Nation as headline acts for this year’s event at Odumase Krobo.
While excitement is building for the concert, many Dangme social media users believe the organisers have failed to celebrate the region’s own rising stars.
Prominent Dangme TikTokers such as DJ Speechless, Michael Brown, and Kuma De Cashman among others have questioned why no Dangme artiste; including favourites like Korley Black, Kwaku Shai, Don Brainy, Yaazo, Abilonzy, and Akpanya was featured as a main performer.
“The Nmayem Festival is our biggest celebration,” one influencer said. “It’s the one event that should promote our people and our music. Outsiders can support, but they shouldn’t overshadow us.”
Across TikTok and other social platforms, Dangme fans have been vocal, insisting that the Ngmayem Festival, celebrated annually by the Krobo people, should serve as a platform to showcase Dangme identity, culture, and music.
“How can we celebrate Nmayem without the sound of Dangme music leading the stage?” another fan lamented. “This is our culture, our pride — it should be reflected on our own stage.”
Many have described the situation as a missed opportunity to project Dangme music and creative talent to a national audience, especially at a time when young artistes from the area are gaining traction across Ghana.
The organisers of Kloyom Artistes’ Night are yet to respond to the growing criticism. However, calls are mounting for future editions of the festival to prioritise Krobo and Dangme artistes — giving them the prominence they deserve at the region’s flagship cultural event.
The Kloyom Artistes’ Night is scheduled for Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Klowem, under the theme “At the Foot of the Mountain.”
