The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old Cameroonian woman, Bella Merie, in connection with a large-scale internet fraud and human trafficking operation in the Ashanti Region.
According to a statement from the Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, Merie was apprehended at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2025, along with forty-three (43) other Cameroonian nationals at a residence in Kenyasi Abrem.

The suspects—comprising thirty-two (32) males and eleven (11) females—were allegedly deceived under the pretense of being offered employment opportunities in Ghana.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had amassed a total of 4.5 million CFA Francs from the victims through fraudulent means.
Police say the scheme was orchestrated using a well-known internet scam method referred to as “Q-NET.”
The suspects and victims, aged between 22 and 38 years, have since been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for the necessary immigration procedures and eventual repatriation to Cameroon.
In the release signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, the Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to combating internet fraud and protecting the rights and welfare of both citizens and foreign nationals within the country.
Investigations are ongoing.
