Breaking News: Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources gives FGR 4 months to turn company around.

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has given a four month conditional approval to Future Global Resources, Bogoso Prestea to allow the company to implement its proposed turnaround strategy.

This comes as workers plan on a demonstration in Accra on Thursday and Friday to demand the withdrawal of the company’s licences.

There have been calls for the Minerals Commission to terminate the lease of the company because it doesn’t have the financial muscles to invest and operate the mine, after it was acquired from Golden Star Resouces about four years ago.

A memo from the General Manager to the employees, titled; “Management update” said “We are pleased to inform you that the long-awaited decision from the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources has finally been made and he has confirmed that the lease for FGR is not revoked but rather granted the Company a “Conditional Approval of a further 120 days to allow the company to implement its proposed turnaround strategy”.

The memo stated that “In the next few days, we will be engaging you on the road map to recovery and will communicate a comprehensive way forward timetable and plan”.

The General manager admitted in the memo that “This has been a difficult and trying periods for all of us but we are confident that the worse is now behind us and within the shortest possible time we should get back onto our road to recovery”

As part of the conditions the company is expected to meet all its salary obligations legitimately due by 30 May.

“In line with that directive the General Manager noted that the December and January salaries will be paid by the first week of May 2024”

“We take this opportunity to thank the entire workforce for their support during this challenging period. We will work together on the roadmap and strategy to ensure that we make FGR BP a better place for all and a market leader of best practice”, the General Manager said.

Meanwhile, workers of FGR and its catchment communities are in anticipation to of an official statement from the ministry to confirm the the memo.
