AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine has officially commenced construction on a $2.5 million community center for the Tarkwa Nsuaem municipality.
The project, which will accommodate up to 2,000 people, aims to serve more than just a physical structure; but rather a hub for education, empowerment, and opportunity.
Designed to foster learning, innovation, and talent development, the social center is expected to be completed within 18 months.
Bensat Company Limited has been contracted to undertake the construction of this significant project.

At a sod cutting ceremony, the he Acting Managing Director for AngloGold Ashanti Iduaprim Mine, Mr. Abraham Osei Badu explained that, the mine is to empower people and advance societies.
He noted that, this social center is a testament to the mine’s commitment to making a positive contribution towards an enduring world.
He further added that, for Iduapriem Mine, “we have always believed in the power of collaboration, and this project is a direct result of that. The mine has worked closely with the Tarkwa Nsuaem municipal Assembly,Nananom, and other relevant stakeholders,including past and present members of parliament to understand their needs and aspirations”.
While expressing his appreciation to the mine for the kind gesture, the Coordinating Director for Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly, Alhaji Boffour Ahmed Haruna encourage people within the municipality to join hands with the Assembly, AngloGold and the contractor to complete the project in no time.
The Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem Hon Issah salifu Taylor urged the people of Tarkwa to come together and push for more developmental projects to enhance the image of the municipality.
He congratulated AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem for the development agenda the company has for communities within their host communities.
The ultra-modern social center promises to be a hub for community engagement and recreation. Designed as a multipurpose facility, it features spaces for business, entertainment, a children’s playground, and areas for senior citizens to gather during festive occasions. This initiative is set to elevate the status of Tarkwa-Nsuaem, fostering unity and innovation within the community.
Other Projects
Apart from the social centre, AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem has embarking on several projects, demonstrating the company’s commitment to sustainable development in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.

Notable is the reconstruction of the Tamso Anglican School creating a model learning environment.
The newly constructed facility has a tiled classrooms, advanced IT infrastructure, a well-equipped staff common room, disabled-friendly walkways and washrooms, and modern teaching aids such as interactive boards and a robust lighting system.
The NICU project
The company is also constructing a state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital
The facility which was initially budgeted to be $400,000 has now been expanded, which has increased the cost to $600,000This significant expansion from the initial $400,000 budget, to $600,000 underscores the mining giant’s dedication to community development and sustainable healthcare.

The NICU project, expected to be completed by March 2025, is the first of its kind in the Western Region.
Facilities in the project include; neonatal wards, a kangaroo room, breastfeeding centers, a milk expression area, a pharmacy, a laboratory, consulting rooms, changing rooms for for nurses and doctors, an oxygen room among others.
These facilities are designed to ensure that newborns receive optimal care in a single, well-equipped location.
