Armed Men Attack Revenue Officer at Yilo Krobo District Hospital in Failed Robbery Attempt

A revenue officer at the Yilo Krobo District Hospital is recovering after being attacked by two knife-wielding assailants in a failed robbery attempt at the hospital’s Outpatient Department (OPD) around 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to hospital authorities, the suspects posed as relatives of a patient seeking emergency care. The unsuspecting officer, believing they were genuine clients, opened her office to inform the registration team—only to be violently confronted.

The attackers demanded to know where cash was stored and, when she failed to comply, inflicted deep cuts to her right eyebrow and arm. She collapsed from the injuries, after which the suspects rummaged through drawers in search of money. They fled the scene when the injured officer managed to call out for help.

The hospital’s security personnel on duty claim they did not see the assailants enter the facility, prompting concerns about how the men gained access.

Speaking in an interview, Francisca Mensah Darkwah, the Medical Superintendent, noted that the hospital’s weak perimeter fence may have enabled the break-in. She emphasized the urgent need for improved security measures and revealed that the hospital will revise its operational hours to limit staff exposure during night shifts.

Hospital management is calling for immediate government support to enhance perimeter fencing, install CCTV cameras, and strengthen security protocols to prevent future incidents.
